About Us

The Nielsen Environmental Field School was created in 1990 in response to a demand from the environmental industry for practically oriented, hands-on environmental field training. The Nielsen Environmental Field School’s principals and key instructors, David M. Nielsen and Gillian L. Nielsen, possess a unique combination of more than 60 years of field experience and more than 50 years of international teaching experience.

The Nielsen Environmental Field School develops and instructs environmental field training courses in the U.S. and internationally (we’ve taught courses in Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, England and Australia). Courses are held on an open-enrollment basis during the Spring and, some years, during the Fall.

It is often more cost-effective to bring the Nielsen Environmental Field School to your office to train your staff than it is to send the same staff off-site for training, especially when groups of 10 or more are involved. By bringing the Nielsen Environmental Field School to your office and field site to conduct an on-site training program, it is possible to develop a customized training program that focuses on the issues of particular interest to your group and to have candid discussions about these issues in the privacy of your own facilities. We reserve the summer and, some years, the fall months of the year to teach on-site courses for our clients across the U.S. and internationally.
