Established in 1990 by company principals David M. Nielsen (a geologist and hydrogeologist) and Gillian L. Nielsen (a hydrologist and aquatic biologist), The Nielsen Environmental Field School quickly became the leading provider of practical, hands-on environmental field training in the world.  Times have changed, and so have we!

In 2015, in celebration of our 25th anniversary of offering top-quality practical environmental training, we video-recorded all of our "live" field courses and converted them to an on-line, distance-learning format, in the form of The Nielsen Environmental E-School The E-School replaces our "live" open-enrollment courses.   All of our former open-enrollment courses are now available exclusively on-line so that anyone, anywhere in the world can take any of our E-Courses or E-Modules, as long as they have a computer or tablet and Internet access.

The Nielsen Environmental E-School is the on-line equivalent of The Nielsen Environmental Field School, and offers the same high-quality, practically oriented training in a very convenient web-based, distance-learning format.   In fact, with the E-School your training options are increased, because you can choose to take either a complete E-Course OR, if you have limited time or only need training on a specific topic, you can choose to take any of the individual 40- to 90-minute E-Modules that comprise an E-Course. The content of these E-Courses and E-Modules is regularly reviewed.

The Nielsen Environmental E-School provides affordable and highly accessible environmental training with the same state-of-the-art technical content as our Field School courses.  Our E-School curriculum is perfect for those environmental professionals who have limited budgets and time for travel and who desire a more convenient option for their training.  In addition to the technical content in our classroom videos, many E-Modules contain field videos of technologies and methodologies discussed in the classroom sessions to provide detailed instruction on how field equipment and methodologies should be used properly.

Now available from the E-School are 78 professionally prepared 40- to 90-minute E-Modules derived from our popular Environmental Sampling Field Course, Complete Ground-Water Monitoring Field Course, Complete Ground-Water Sampling Field Course, and Complete Soil Sampling Field Course.  These modules have been assembled into the following 7 E-Courses:

  • The Environmental Sampling E-Course (32 E-Modules; 36 total hours of classroom & field training)
  • The Complete Ground-Water Monitoring E-Course (29 E-Modules; 32.5 total hours of classroom & field training)
